23 DAYS TO THE WEDDING BELLS:

It’s been over a year since I’ve written on my blog… and I apologize to all my readers. You all probably thought I dropped off the face of the earth. In reality, I’m still here. It’s been a crazy and wonderful year since I last wrote. The amazing thing about 2011, is that it was a year of learning to trust in God in every area of life.

Not long after writing my post last year, I met the girl of my dreams. As a writer, you plan out how your characters are going to meet, how they’ll fall in-love, and it’s all so romantic, and would never happen in real life, right? That’s what I thought; until the day I met my fiancée.

Summer of 2009 was a fun year. Two of my best-friends decided to get married. My friend Dave, met his wife at our church and I was honored when he asked me to be a groomsman in his wedding. So, I head to Men’s Wearhouse to get fitted for my tuxedo, and boy, did I look great! Little did I know, Kari (my fiancée) was going to be at the wedding. Up to this point we had never met.

Now, I know what you’re thinking… “you mean to tell me  you met at your friends wedding?” OH, but the story is just about to get good.

The night of Dave’s rehearsal arrived; and as usual I was running late. Once I arrived I was introduced to the girl I’d be escorting down the aisle. She was stunning! If the world could have stopped spinning at that moment, I’d have stayed right there. But, no time to stand and gawk, I had a job to do, and that was escort her down the aisle. Because we were the last on the groomsman and bridesmaid list, we had the daunting task of starting the processional down the aisle. It was up to me to set the pace.

The day of the wedding I was in my tuxedo, and I looked good, and again, when I saw Kari, my world stopped spinning. She was beautiful. Not only that, but have you ever been transfixed on someone’s eyes and you can’t look away. That was so me. I found myself staring at her during the ceremony, instead of focusing on what was happening. Though somehow I did manage to pay attention to the ceremony.

As the day was approaching the end, I decided it was time to leave. But all night, I couldn’t help but think about Kari and that I wanted to ask her out… and somehow I knew she’d have said yes. I mustered up as much courage as I could. I buttoned my jacket and straightened my tie and began the slow methodological walk towards Kari.

I said to myself, if she’s standing alone, I’ll ask her out, but if there were others around, I’d just go home. She was alone. So I walked over as butterflies churned butter in my stomach. She was looking at me approaching, not a good time to panic.

And I panicked!

I extended my hand and said, “It was nice meeting you.”

“It was nice meeting you too, I’m sure we’ll see each other again.” With that, she turned and left.

IDIOT!!!!!!!!! I TOTALLY BLEW IT!!!!!!!!

So, for the next year and a half, I wondered if I’d ever see Kari again. January of 2011, days after I wrote the previous blog, Dave calls me and askes if I remember Kari and wondered if I would consider going out with her. It’s amazing how God, when you’re obedient, will bring the train around the station again. I was really excited on the inside, but I said what all good Pastor’s say… “Let me pray about it.”

That was dumb, cause, if you’re a pastor, you’ll understand, people will use your sermons against you. And that’s what happened. Dave used an illustration about faith against me and said, I should give God a chance. See what happens. So, I agreed to go bowling and dinner as a double date.

January 29, 2011 was a day that I will never forget, because that was the day God brought into my life the girl of my dreams, but I wouldn’t know that for a few months.
