I listened to the story of Moses in Exodus 3 this morning on my way into the office. I was captivated by the story. Here are my thoughts and takeaways.

Here was a man, broken, a fugitive and a murderer standing before Almighty God at the burning bush. What’s amazing is how he sounds just like us when God asks something of us. Moses whined and made excuses.

How many times do we make the same in our daily lives? Our boss, parents, spouse ask something of us, and all we do is make excuses why we can’t step it up. What’s our reasoning? Is it because of fear of failure? Is it because of the feeling of inadequacy? What holds us back?

When push came to shove, the disciples ran from Jesus as he was being arrested. Peter denied him, even though Peter denied the fact he would deny Jesus.

But God!

The most amazing two words in the Bible. But God. When we take the time to actually listen to the voice of the Lord, He speaks. Even in our weakness, He speaks. Moses was afraid. He was afraid of what God saw in him. He was afraid that someone like him couldn’t be used by God.

”Who am I that I should go…?” God declares that He will be with us, even when we feel inadequate. It’s a promise. God says that I AM WHO I AM! In other words, I AM the one you need in the very moment you need Me. I AM the one who supplies all your needs. I AM the one who guides you and is the light unto your path. I will delight in you as you delight in Me.

So why do we make excuses with favor from God like that? Become humble, lay aside your excuses and allow the Lord too be your I AM, just as Moses did when he confronted Pharaoh.

Blessings,
