Iraq is about to fall. Russia is slowly reclaiming their empire. Iran, Egypt and Syria have their qualms with Israel. Al Qaeda is on the rise, stronger than ever before. School shootings are rising. Civil unrest is happening all around the world.
What is happening? It seems as if all hell is breaking lose. The reality is… it is. The Bible is very clear that in the final days war, rumors of wars, plagues and evil would be on the rise and prevalent. I remember the day I woke up to a new and scary world.
September 11 began like any other morning. I got ready, grabbed my bag and headed to the cafeteria at Bethany College of Missions for my morning breakfast. Upon arrival I found everyone glued to the TV. I asked what was going on…
“One of the towers exploded…” on classmate told me.
Just then, the second plane burrowed it’s way into the south tower. I was shocked. Watching people die in explosions, falling from the building is something I will never get out of my head.
The world we live in is scary. People are searching for hope, for answers. The question is, are we going to be sitting idly by and watch the people around us go to hell? There is a battle waging around the world. The battle is not simply a physical battle – it’s a spiritual one. We are fighting a war for people’s souls.
Satan’s goal is to keep people from knowing how wonderful, how powerful, how graceful and beautiful God really is. “A thief comes only to rob, kill, and destroy…” John [10:10]a (CEB). Satan wants to wreck the world. “The city shall be taken, the houses rifled, and the women ravished. half of the city shall go into captivity…” Zech. 14:2b
Jesus came so that we could have life. “I came so everyone would have life, and have it fully.” John [10:10]b (CEB). He is returning, but what we do with our time here on earth becomes the determining factor in how many people find/have Christ’s life. Our goal, our whole life should be revolved around Jesus is coming soon! We don’t have to worry about tomorrow or what the world is doing right now, we need to be concerned with those closest to us. Are they hearing the Gospel from us?
“It shall come to pass in that day, that there will be no light; the lights will diminish. It shall be one day which is known to the Lord–neither day nor night. But at evening time it shall happen, that it will be light! – Zech. 14:6-7
Zechariah says the city shall be taken. My question, are we willing to go to war and fight for people’s souls? A friend of mine is re-launching their church with the name… SOULS CHURCH. I couldn’t think of a better name. We are to be about the Great Commission. It’s not a option, it’s not something to simple think about; “I’ll get to it when I get the chance.” NO! We are to be about bringing people the hope they are looking for in a world that is scary and unpredictable.
We are to be that light in people’s lives. The question is… what are you willing do do about it? Put aside your own ambitions and desires, place your focus on helping more people find true life in Jesus Christ. That’s what it’s all about. I don’t want our city to be taken by the enemy I want to take our city by the power of Jesus Christ.
What are you willing to do for Christ? Sound off below!
Blessings,
J. B. Sisam
